Just a Dog

When is a dog just a dog? Never! That’s the way in my household. There are other names for a dog. Mickey, Tess, Penny, Bo and of course the fan favorite today, Honey Bee.

According to Paisley and Lola, Honey Bee is the best dog ever. Just recently Honey Bee pulled off one of God’s small miracles. I am pretty sure Honey Bee had nothing to do with it but the girls named the puppies, Rain, Hail, Lightening, Thunder, Windy and Sunshine. Six little puppies. One was born one day, the following day four more were born and on the third day, a sixth surprise was born. Six little miracles in the making. I am sure Honey Bee is a proud mama.

We don’t give it much thought when animals give birth but it is a pure God-given event. No mid-wives, no maternity hospital. Then what do we do after the puppies have grown for a few weeks? We up and give them away or sell them to strangers. Honey Bee started a family, her first litter of babies, only to lose them.

That is kind of the way with children. Our daughter Kaitlyn was born in 1991. She was a cute little tyke, but a lot of work! Feeding, bathing, changing diapers, tending her when she was sick. Then finally after a few years it was time for her to fly the coop. No, we didn’t sell her or give her away, she just left. She became a young lady who wanted to care for herself.

I am sure when Honey Bee had her pups she didn’t realize they would be leaving. They were her family. The nature of things includes growing up, leaving home. For Rain, Hail, Lightening, Thunder, Windy and Sunshine they will find their way with people who love them.

God continues to bless Honey Bee with good health and giving her the experience of being a mother. There is no greater gift than to be a part of God’s family on this green earth. The Lord has blessed Honey Bee, Paisley and Lola with miracles of life. Let’s do our best to protect what God has given us.
