Fishin' and Bailin'

Living in Florida I always looked forward to summer time. There would always be a two week vacation to Ohio to visit my grandmother on my mother's side. I looked forward to blackberry pickin' and watching my grandmother make them into a blackberry pie. I thought there was nothing better except—when I asked my grandmother, "You want to go fishin'?"

That was the best part of being with grandma. She loved to fish. We would go to the lake with our cane poles, hooks, lines, bobbers and sinkers. She would rent a boat, if you could call it that. We always had to make sure we had a pail with us to bail water. The boats were always homemade and certainly not waterproof. The pail was always there to make sure we didn't have to swim back to shore. But we loved it. We would plunk our lines into the water with the bobbers floating waiting for a bite from a bluegill. We usually were not disappointed. This is a fond memory of my childhood.

Focusing on my faith in Christ, I often see my life as one of fishin' and bailin'. My life depends on Christ—keeping me afloat in this boat of life. We all tend to be in a hurry not investing in a sturdy leak-proof boat, so from time to time, we have to ask Him to bail us out. I don't know about you, but I will stick with Christ, the Great Fisher of Men. My grandma and I would always make it home at the end of the day, wet but happy. I feel the same way when I am with Christ. At the end of the day, even though I may be wet, I've spent the day with a Savior I love!
